Six Flags opened a major new theme park in Saudi Arabia, on New Year’s Eve, marking a milestone for the company and the region’s rapidly expanding entertainment industry.

The park, Six Flags Qiddiya City, represents the first Six Flags theme park designed and built outside North America, placing the global entertainment brand at the centre of Saudi Arabia’s Qiddiya City development near Riyadh.

Located in the Tuwaiq Mountains, about 40 minutes from the capital, Qiddiya City is being developed as a global destination focused on what planners describe as the “Power of Play,” combining large-scale entertainment, sports and cultural attractions, the release says.

Six Flags Qiddiya City features 28 rides and attractions spread across six themed lands, including several record-setting roller coasters. Among them is Falcons Flight, billed as the world’s longest, tallest and fastest roller coaster, along with Iron Rattler, the tallest tilt coaster, and Spitfire, the tallest inverting coaster, according to the release.

The company said the park is designed to appeal to a wide range of visitors, with 18 attractions geared toward families and younger guests, as well as dining options featuring international cuisine and retail outlets selling exclusive merchandise.
