The Junior Galaxy Explorers Search has kicked off at the Miami Children’s Museum, marking the first stop in Florida for the nationwide competition.
Kids ages 6 to 12 brought their creativity to life by designing and presenting their own LEGO spacecraft.
Participants either arrived with custom-built LEGO spacecraft or built them on-site, showcasing their designs to a Galactic Council of judges. The panel included the LEGOLAND Florida Master Model Builder and a rocket engineer from Blue Origin’s Club for the Future.
The competition invites young innovators to explore creativity through hands-on building inspired by the universe. Winners will be announced by February 5.
Prizes include a first-ever ride on Legoland Florida Resort’s new Galacticoaster, a space-themed family indoor coaster opening on February 27. Winners also receive a two-night stay at a Legoland hotel, annual passes for their family, and a custom LEGO commemorative build.
The Junior Galaxy Explorers program offers a unique opportunity for children to engage with STEM concepts and space exploration in a fun, interactive way.
Julie Estrada, a spokesperson at Legoland Florida, said: “This is an exciting day for Merlin Entertainment as we kick off our national tour right here at Miami Children’s Museum. We’ll be going to several different museums throughout Florida and California looking for a junior galaxy explorer.”
The next stop on the Junior Galaxy Explorer tour is at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale on January 10, followed by the Kennedy Space Center on January 17. Digital submissions are also accepted.
