Operators highlight what’s new for the 2022 season

Park World spoke to a number of facilities to find out what’s new for guests in 2022. Here’s what they had to say…

Michael Kreft von Byern, Rulantica

We’re focusing on the further development of our outdoor area this season. Snorri Strand, the popular outdoor water play area for our little guests, will be extended with additional slides and a play structure, as well as a new gastronomic offering.

We’re also adding a new, 1,400 square metre outdoor sandy beach area that will also cater for families, with a full-size beach volleyball court at the centre of it. Additional sun loungers and other seating will offer more space and create a whole new themed setting at Rulantica. Enjoy the sunshine, build sandcastles or enjoy performances on the new open-air stage, everyone will find something to do here.

Last but not least, we have recently extended the Hyggedal sauna and relaxation area with another sauna, built in a traditional Scandinavian wooden look and situated on our outdoor terrace, the KOTA Sauna Chalet. Rulantica doesn’t stand still. Our plans keep evolving and we can tell by the guests’ feedback that we are on the right track with our extension plans.

Cyril Parenna, Hall U Need, France

Hall U Need, the hotspot for indoor eats and entertainment which opened in June 2021 in Saint-André-Lez-Lille (Hauts-de-France), will expand with the addition of a terrace on a 2500m2 tree-lined garden. The opening is scheduled for early April.

This will consist of a 600m2 Bar-Restaurant area and a green space equipped with a lounge area (deckchairs, VIP area, sofas) and games for adults and children.

Equipped with an outdoor kitchen and bar, Hall U Need will offer part of the usual menu, a slate of the day and barbecue grills on weekends.

The complex will increase from a reception capacity at the restaurantbar level of 500 seats to 850 seats. Customers will thus have the choice of dining indoors or outdoors before enjoying indoor activities such as bowling, karaoke, 4D Virtual Reality, the children’s playground, car racing or more than 80 arcade and redemption games.

Frédéric Goullet, Vulcania, France

2022 will be a very special year for Vulcania with the celebration of its 20th anniversary. Vulcania is the only theme park in Europe about volcanoes and natural phenomenon, and thanks to its current success, the park should welcome its 7th million visitor during the summer.

Having been cancelled for the last two years because of Covid, the animation “Which hero are you?” will be presented to visitors during the Spring holidays and weekends, while 12 special nights with the fantastic Dragon Time pyro show will be given during Summer. Only launched mid-July 2021, Namazu, the family drop rollercoaster about earthquakes, and the new takeaway restaurant le Comptoir du cratère that offers local burgers and drinks will also be new for most of the visitors this year.

Nick Laister, Fairytale Farm, UK

We have our biggest ever investment in new developments for 2022.

Our visitors can explore our magical new indoor play area, Rapunzel’s Kingdom, themed around a fairy tale forest, with castles, slides and fairy houses to visit, role playing and interactive features.

We have also just opened our brand-new Combine Harvester, with two levels, multiplay activities and a slide, which is perfect for imaginary farm play!

In February we opened our new Musical House, where our visitors can operate the fairground organ or the brass band – everything is people-powered!

Our biggest investment for 2022 will be open for the school summer holidays, which is our brand-new dinosaur-themed area, Dino Valley, with a collection of life-sized (but very friendly) dinosaurs. This attraction has been self-built by our in-house team, including all groundworks, steel fabrication, fibreglass and painting, because we could not find a supplier who could create cartoon-like dinosaurs like the ones we wanted so they wouldn’t be too scary for our younger visitors.

We have also taken the opportunity this winter to create new paths around our animal area and refurbish all other pathways around the site.

Fons Jurgens, Efteling, Netherlands

2022 is an exciting year for Efteling as we are celebrating our 70th anniversary with celebrations throughout the year. We kicked off the anniversary year with the opening of two new attractions themed around Sindbad the Sailor from the Tales of One Thousand and One Nights: Sirocco, which offers a dizzying adventure for all ages, and Archipel, an island adventure area for children, both located in the Reizenrijk area of the park.

During our big anniversary year, Efteling is promising many fun activities, surprises and party music played every day at 4pm throughout the park. In April, we will also be launching a very special temporary fairytale on the Speelweide playing field in the centre of the park, which will be there until October.
