The UK’s newest Ferris Wheel opened this summer at the Bayside Pleasure Park in Bridlington, East Yorkshire. The 38-metre tall Eye on the Coast was built to order by Mondial in Holland and features 24 enclosed air-conditioned gondolas.
The ride opened in June after 18 months of legal wranglings caused by local traders objecting to plans also to open an arcade and Burger King restaurant. Now wheel, arcade and fast food outlet are all open and performing well after a slow start.
“Like many seaside operations we were affected by the weather in June and July,” says owner Michael Harrison of Harrison Leisure, “but now things are looking up. I’m very pleased with the way everything has come together. This is the first time we have used Mondial. We looked at most manufacturers on the market for the wheel but they did a good job, we were impressed with the new style of gondola, and I would probably go to them again in future.”
