The Japanese entertainment venue and bowling alley, Round1, is set to occupy the former Nordstrom location at Stonestown Galleria in San Francisco.
This will mark Round1’s inaugural establishment in the city. Renowned for its expansive entertainment areas and arcade games sourced from Japan, the company already operates in Hayward, Concord, and San Jose, with nearly 100 additional locations nationwide.
On Tuesday, Round One Corp. submitted a proposal to the city’s planning department, as reported by the San Francisco Business Times. The company aims to transform 50,000 square feet of the former Nordstrom space into facilities for bowling, a redemption arcade, billiards, party rooms, a snack bar and bar, along with other support areas.
The estimated cost of the project is approximately $4.5 million, according to the Business Times. Stonestown Galleria, situated near San Francisco State University and several high schools, is recognized as a popular gathering spot for youth.
In March, the mall experienced several large-scale altercations among young individuals, prompting city officials to implement various anti-violence measures. It remains uncertain whether the mall will modify its security protocols in light of Round1’s upcoming opening, as Stonestown did not respond to SFGATE’s inquiry by the time of publication.
Round1’s website indicates that the Stonestown location is “coming soon,” although a specific opening date has yet to be announced.
