WhiteWater has built its first Tornado-style waterslide. The Abyss opened this August at Hanwha Resort in South Korea.
The multi-person funnel slide is as visually inspiring as it is entertaining. Standing nearly 30-metres tall and using high capacity four-to-six-person rafts, the Abyss features “bigger drops, higher walls and more near-vertical oscillations than other ride in its class.”
Both the funnel and the flume that feeds it are available in a variety of configurations and colours. Decorative themes and advanced interactive sound and lighting can also be added to create an even more original and entertaining guest experience.
The Hanwha installation, a small space on the roof of a partially underground building, posed a daunting challenge to WhiteWater’s engineers. To minimise weight and conform to the limited footprint, they developed a lightweight structure that reduces the amount of visible steel. Angled concrete footings and pilings bear most of the weight.
