Opened late May, the eagerly anticipated Wet ‘n’ Wild from Village Roadshow and local partners instantly becomes Nevada’s largest waterpark.
Home to more than 25 exhilarating slides and attractions, the 41-acre property is built on land leased from the Howard Hughes Corporation. Investors in the $50 million project include Tennis legends Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf, Dr Steven and Karen Thomas of the local Thomas & Mack stadium, and Roger and Scott Bulloch of SPB Partners.
The majority owner, responsible for day-to-day operations, is the Australian entertainment conglomerate Village Roadshow, which also operators Wet ‘n’ Wild branded waterparks in Arizona, Hawaii and on the Gold Coast and soon Sydney, Australia.
“Las Vegas is the perfect place for us to be with its residential base and the millions of visitors who come here each year,” notes Tom Fisher, CEO of Village Roadshow Theme Parks. “The city is ripe for a waterpark, and particularly the Wet ‘n’ Wild brand,”
The new park is “ideally located” in southwest Las Vegas near the Sunset Road exit of the I-215 highway, and features a package of attractions from leading industry supplier WhiteWater.
Thrill-seekers can cool down from the Las Vegas heat on the Hoover Half Pipe, dropping riders 57ft into a half pipe experience, or on Rattler, the only slide of its kind built to date in North America.
The waterpark also features tamer attractions such as the relaxing Colorado Cooler, a 1,00ft-long lazy river; Splash Island, a multi-level interactive AquaPlay RainFortress filled with geysers, mini-slides and dumping buckets; and the wave pool, a 17,000 sq-ft pool capable of producing 3ft-high (1m) waves. There is also a massive High Thrill waterslide complex, featuring a multi-lane mat racer and a Boomerango/SuperBowl.
Additional amenities include plenty of shaded areas, private cabanas to rent, misting systems, plus fast pass-style Xpress Bands allowing those guests that rent them to reduce their time waiting in line.
From now through until September 30, Wet ‘n’ Wild Las Vegas will open daily from 10am to 8pm. Village Roadshow is predicting an annual attendance of 650,000.
Wet ‘n’ Wild Sydney
Village Roadshow’s flagship Wet ‘n’ Wild on the Gold Coast in Australia will soon be joined by a second outlet in the country. Wet ‘n’ Wild Sydney will feature two waterslide complexes by WhiteWater. One of these – pictured below – will boast the world’s first combination of an eight-lane Whizzard Twist mat racer intertwined with four duelling AquaLoops tube slides. The second complex will include multiple innertube ride experiences including four MasterBlaster waterslide coasters , a Giant AquaTube, Constrictor, Boomerango and Rattler.
