Universal Destinations & Experiences has established a temporary headquarters close to its planned UK theme park in Bedfordshire.

The BBC reported that the company has taken over the top floor of Bedford Borough Hall on Cauldwell Street, which is already home to Bedford Borough Council.

Universal Destinations & Experiences said in a statement: “We look forward to continuing to work with Bedford Borough Council’s leadership and officers and are appreciative of their ongoing support as we establish a temporary home for the Universal team.”

Mayor of Bedford Borough, Tom Wootton, said “hundreds of people” would be based in the building, working on “top secret” plans for Universal’s first UK destination.

“I’m really excited to see that they actually made the decision to have their offices in Bedford and that’s a great thing for our town,” he said.

Planning permission for the new park, which is expected to open in 2031, was granted in December.

The project will provide a £50 billion economic benefit, also creating around 20,000 jobs during the construction period and 8,000 permanent positions once operational.

It is expected to attract more than eight million visitors annually.
