Tivoli plans Petzi World

After opening a teen-friendly interactive ride in 2009 (Insane), Tivoli is to extend an olive branch to families when it unveils a new children’s area in 2010. Petzi’s World will open next summer and be based around the Danish cartoon character of the same name.

Children at the Copenhagen park will be able to enjoy more than 40 different play activities as they are taken on a voyage of discovery with Petzi and his friends Pelle, Pingo and Old Salt. A highlight of the new area will be the good ship Mary.

“We believe that Petzi and Tivoli fit together well – both brands are internationally recognised, and both have entertained Danish children for many generations,” says Tivoli deputy managing director Stine Lolk.

Created in 1952 by Carla Hansen, Petzi is licensed from Egmont. The sea-loving bear has featured in more than 80 books and his comics are sold in over 20 countries, in addition to a wide range of merchandise, which of course will also be on sale at Tivoli.

Occupying a 13,000 ft site, Petzi’s World replaces the playground next to Tivoli Lake, but will be considerably larger. To create extra room, the 1958 toboggan slide built as a part of the playground will be moved to a new play area beside the Tivoli Hotel, also scheduled for a summer 2010 opening.

Entry to Petzi’s World, like the rest of Tivoli, will be free, with tickets required for certain attractions.
