Swiss Rides has landed a prestigious contract to supply a chair ride for the Swiss Pavilion at Expo 2010 in Shanghai. The ride will start inside the building, then travel outside across a grass-covered roof and back down via a spiral. Hourly capacity if predicted at 1,500 using pairs of six-seater ride vehicles.
Designed by Buchner Bründler Architects and Element GmbH, the Swiss Pavilion will explore the theme of “rural-urban interaction” and include the visions of Swiss citizens along such features as a high definition movie of the Alps. It is expected to be one of the more high profile pavilions at the Expo because it is the one featuring a ride, and is forecast to welcome 40 million visitors in six months (the Expo itself is supposed to entertain 70 million).
When the Expo is finished at the end of October, the building and the chair lift’s track will be demolished but Swiss Rides hopes to sell the ride vehicles on.
