Schlitterbahn expands outside Texas

Schlitterbahn Vacation Village, Kansas City, Missouri, was due to break ground on September 18. The new facility will be a $749 million trend-setting retail entertainment destination comprised of multiple shopping, dining, lodging and entertainment venues connected by a ‘Transportainment’ river system.

The Kansas project is the first expansion outside of Texas for the Schlitterbahn group of waterparks. Schlitterbahn currently operates three Texas waterparks – Schlitterbahn Beach, South Padre Island, Schlitterbahn Galveston Island, Galveston Island, and the flagship Schlitterbahn Resort, New Braunfels.

The Schlitterbahn Vacation Village site is a 376-acre parcel near Village West in Kansas City. The project will include a Schlitterbahn Water Resort for summer operation, and will be one of the world’s largest tubing parks with miles of interconnected rivers and signature attractions such as the Master Blaster uphill water coaster and Torrent River. The project will also include a large Interactive Marine Park with saltwater lagoons for snorkelling, helmet diving, and touch pools. A Riverwalk with lush foliage and winding walkways will feature destination shopping, dining and entertainment centred in a covered, year-round environment. A lodging package will include more than 1,800 accommodations including a full service hotel, waterfront cabin and the unique Treehaus Resort with elevated pods, all integrated within waterpark attractions.
