Campsite operator buys amusement park

Morgan RV Resorts has acquired Indiana Beach Amusement Resort in Monticello, Indiana, for an undisclosed price. The purchase includes the northwest Indiana resort’s entire operation and makes sense for Morgan when one learns the extent of the camp facilities within it.

Included are the Indiana Beach Boardwalk Funway amusement park and waterpark, Indiana Beach Camp Resort, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp Resort, Beach House Inn hotel and motel, Lakeview Penthouse Suites, The Beach Club Resort and Hoosier Pointe cottages, Shafer Queen paddle wheel boat, The Fun Zone, a lakefront sandy beach, Skyroom Restaurant and multiple dining and retail operations.
Numerous amusement park improvements are planned for 2008, including the addition of its sixth rollercoaster, Steel Hawg (sic) by S&S Global. Also new will be an extended operating season. The park, which celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2005, was founded Earl Spackman. Family members including his grandson Thomas Jnr are expected to remain on in leadership or consulting roles.

The Indiana Beach Amusement Resort complex will open for the 2008 season on May 3.
