The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) has announced the global expansion of the Accessibility App, a complimentary tool designed to help users locate businesses and public areas that cater to their accessibility requirements. This expanded version of the app is now accessible worldwide in both English and Arabic through the App Store and Google Play Store. The Accessibility App is equipped with various features aimed at providing resources and support for individuals with disabilities or specific needs.

“One of the biggest barriers for people with disabilities is lack of information, which results in a large portion of the population being underserved and unsure. Since one in four people are diagnosed with a disability, the need for accessible locations is greater than many realize”

Says Myron Pincomb, IBCCES board chairman

“The IBCCES Accessibility App is designed to bridge this gap by connecting businesses to this community and providing information and tools for people with disabilities to help them navigate public spaces more easily.”

The Accessibility App, available at no cost to users, offers vital information catering to a variety of needs. This includes insights into the sensory experiences at evaluated venues, business listings complete with photographs and accessibility information, professionals and attractions certified for autism, locations equipped with hearing loops, travel and airport accommodations, healthcare facilities staffed by autism-trained and certified personnel, live support for individuals who are blind or have low vision, details on wheelchair accessibility, language translation services, job opportunities, and much more. Additionally, users can access their IBCCES Accessibility Card through the app, facilitating a smoother accommodation process at participating attractions. Users are encouraged to rate and review locations, providing valuable feedback to businesses within the app. The app is continuously evolving, with new features and resources being added regularly, as more businesses and professionals join the platform.

Since its establishment in 2001, IBCCES has emerged as a prominent authority in the training and certification of professionals across healthcare, education, and corporate sectors worldwide. The organization has developed specialized programs tailored to various industries, aimed at equipping staff with the necessary knowledge and ensuring that accommodations are accessible for this expanding yet underserved community. IBCCES stands as the sole credentialing board providing such programs, which encompass training delivered by subject matter experts and autistic self-advocates, alongside ongoing support and opportunities for continuous learning.

IBCCES also created AutismTravel.com and CertifiedAutismCenter.com, free online resources that list certified locations and professionals. Each organization listed on the site has met Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) requirements.
