Holiday World splashes out for 2008

Kima Bay heads $6m expansion

A monkey-themed family waterplay attraction tops the list of new additions planned for 2008 at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Santa Claus, Indiana.

Kima Bay, at Splashin’ Safari, will feature seven water slides plus more than 100 waterplay elements, including more than 125 water jets. The four-story interactive structure from WhiteWater West will be topped by a 1,200-gallon tipping bucket.

“Kima is the Swahili word for monkey,” reveals Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari president, Will Koch. “We think children will especially enjoy the fun monkey theming, nearly as much as all the climbing, splashing and sliding in store for them at Kima Bay.”

Kima Bay will cost $1.7 million, part of the parks’ $6 million expansion budget for 2008. Koch says he’s still in the decision-making process regarding additional new attractions and infrastructure improvements, but that Kima Bay will add needed capacity, which is an ongoing priority, as attendance in 2007 will again surpass one million guests. He predicts the need to hire an additional 50 seasonal employees for 2008.
