Geauga Lake to become waterpark only

Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom, Aurora, Ohio, will become simply Geauga Lake’s Wildwater Kingdom next season as it ditches the amusement park attractions in favour of an all-waterpark offering.

Cedar Fair has operated the 119-year-old park for the last four seasons, adding Wildwater Kingdom in 2005. “Over the past three seasons, we have invested approximately $25 million to create and develop the premier waterpark in northeastern Ohio,” notes the company’s chairman, president and CEO, Dick Kinzel. “Since opening, Wildwater Kingdom has been the park’s highest rated attribute.”

Cedar Fair already owns and operates five separately-gated waterparks, in addition to those bolted on to its existing amusement parks. “Waterparks traditionally draw from a closer geographic market than amusement parks,” adds Kinzel, “and we believe Geauga Lake’s Wildwater Kingdom will continue to be successful in drawing visitors from the greater Cleveland, Youngstown and Akron-Canton areas.”

The 2008 operating schedule, admission pricing, group programmes and other operating details will be announced at a later date. However, the waterpark season is traditionally Memorial Day to Labor Day. As part of the changeover, a number of the rides at Geauga Lake will be introduced at other Cedar Fair properties.
