Denmark’s Sommerland Sjælland has introduced a new food & beverage concept for 2012 as an alternative to the fast food offerings traditionally found in amusement parks.
Guests at this family-friendly park in the north west of Denmark, about 100km from Copenhagen, can choose from tapas style dishes with ingredients sourced from local producers.
“You can taste a freshly made pie with local vegetables as you sit between fresh herbs, which you can cut off to spice up your dish,” explains the park’s Lone Hoelgaard Havmand. ”Local food products are also available for guests to buy and take home.”
Special events during 2012 included a children’s Flea Market, where kids could buy and sell toys, plus a special midsummer celebration called Sankt Hans, with bonfires, barbeques and singing late into the evening. Sommerland Sjælland also continues to offer special activities for guests using mobile phones. New for this season, parents could send an SMS (text message) to a canon inside the pirate ship moored inside the park’s lake.
