With the announcement that Coen Bertens is to leave Efteling after 23 years, the composition of the five-member board of directors of the Dutch theme park will change from the beginning of next year. Bertens, director of the Park business unit, will leave the Efteling organisation with effect from 1 February 2021.
Bertens said: “Efteling is a dynamic organisation that moves with the times. This also applies to me; it is time for a next step in my career. I look forward to inspiring others with everything I have been able to learn here in recent years!”
Under the leadership of Coen Bertens, Efteling has taken great steps in establishing collaborations with other theme parks, increasing cooperation between Efteling colleagues and enhancing the visitor experience. Bertens will remain responsible for the Efteling theme park until February, when he will officially pass on the baton to Nicole Scheffers, who will be the new theme park director. Koen Sanders will be appointed Hotels & Resorts Director, in addition to his current role as commerce, creation & development director.
As of 1 February 2021, the Efteling Board of Directors officially consists of four people: Fons Jurgens (chief executive officer), Daan van Baarsen (chief financial officer), Nicole Scheffers (theme park director) and Koen Sanders (commerce, creation & development and hotels & resorts director).
