Disney Worldbuilders, a new feature-length documentary from Academy Award- and Emmy-nominated filmmaker Leslie Iwerks, will premiere on Disney+ on 20 August, offering an inside look at the creative process behind Disney’s storytelling and theme park experiences.
The documentary features conversations with some of Disney’s most influential creative leaders, including Bob Iger, James Cameron, Jon Favreau, Kevin Feige, Jennifer Lee, Pete Docter, Dave Filoni, Jared Bush and Josh D’Amaro, as they reflect on the ideas, experiences and collaborations that have shaped some of the company’s most iconic stories.
Exploring the relationship between storytelling and themed entertainment, Disney Worldbuilders reveals how beloved franchises evolve from screen to destination, and how the parks themselves continue to inspire new creative directions. The film highlights a collaborative approach that traces its roots back to Walt Disney and remains central to the company’s creative philosophy today.
Through candid interviews, viewers will gain insight into the development of worlds inspired by Avatar, Star Wars, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Pixar, Frozen and Zootopia, and how these stories have been transformed into immersive guest experiences across Disney’s parks and resorts.
The documentary also offers an early look at several upcoming themed lands currently in development at Disney destinations around the world, showcasing what the company describes as one of the most ambitious periods of expansion in its history.
