Chinese waterpark wonder!

Chimelong storms into TEA/ERA Top 20

The new TEA/ERA Attraction Attendance report is published elsewhere on this website, revealing the world’s top parks and waterparks from 2007. A new entrant in the Top 20 list of waterparks – storming in at joint third with 1.4 million guests – was Chimelong Water Park near Guangzhou, China.

“It was our goal here at Chimelong to become one of the top five attended waterparks in our first year of operations and our staff have worked very hard to achieve this goal,” reports general consultant Alan Mahony. “We are very proud of this, and it is now our goal to become the world’s number one.”
Phase I of the park, which forms part of the Chimelong resort, was designed by Whitewater West, with slides by Whitewater and Proslide. A development plan by Forrec is now being implemented for phase II, featuring a 10,000 sq m kid’s area, a re-themed lazy river and a Behemoth Bowl slide.
Once this next phase is complete, the waterpark will be able to cater for up to 50,000 guests a day. The winner of IAAPA’s “Must See Waterpark” in 2007 now hopes to attract 2.2 million guests in 2008. We hope to bring you more from this ambitious operator soon.
