Following an encouraging start last year, the Global Leaders Institute is getting ready to stage its second Asia Tourism Resort & Attraction conference this June in Shanghai.
Over 180 leading players from the leisure, theme park, real estate and resort sectors across Asia and beyond participated in 2009’s inaugural event, and this year a particularly strong seminar programme has been assembled.
Unlike last year, the event will not take place in downtown Shanghai but rather the Sheshan tourist resort on the outskirts of the city, allowing delegates to see the new Happy Valley theme park nearby from OCT. A tour of the facility has been scheduled for the final day of the event, Friday June 5.
Speakers have been confirmed from Chimelong Group, OCT, Oriental Pearl, Venetian Macau, Ocean Park, Jinjiang Amusement Park and many more.
Topics on the agenda include the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, resort development in China, key ingredients to making a world class experience, plus strategies to develop tourism in the challenging economic climate.
Yet despite all the talk of doom and gloom, Zhang Jianzhong from the National Tourism Administration reckons there is still plenty of potential for the industry in China as it moves closer to becoming the world’s number one tourist destination. “Catalysed by the Beijing Olympics and the World Expo in Shanghai, we are now at a turning point and ready for another substantive leap,” says Mr Zhang, who will deliver this year’s opening session at ATRA.
